Ingredients:
1kg seedless watermelon, skin removed, chopped
2 punnets strawberries, hulled, sliced
425g can peach slices in natural juice
2 tablespoons caster sugar
Method:
Place watermelon, strawberries, peach slices and peach
juice into a food processor (in batches if necessary).
Process until smooth. Add sugar to taste. Pour fruit mixture through a sieve into a
shallow 8-cup capacity plastic container.
Cover. Freeze for 4 to 5 hours or until partially set.
Use a fork to flake granita to break up. Cover.
Freeze for a further 4 hours or until completely frozen.
Use a fork to flake granita again and break up ice crystals.
Return to freezer until ready to serve.
Spoon granita into chilled serving glasses.
Serve immediately.
Variation: If you prefer, you could replace the strawberries with
raspberries (fresh or frozen) and the peaches with canned mango slices.
Hint: Chill your serving glasses in the freezer before serving as this will
help to stop granita from melting quickly on a hot day.
Make it happen.
What is ‘Extraordinary’ living?
- Experiencing- Find some joy daily. What are you grateful for? If you struggle with this the try writing 5 things daily or telling someone.
- Feeling- Comfortable and contentment. We are never where we want to be and when we are, we should cherish this time, in order to experience greater fulfillment!
- Expressing- Hopefulness and optimism. Always looking at each situation with a positive slant. I.e. I can’t run today but will be able in a week!
- Repeating- Professional and personal success. What can you do better? Be objective and be open minded.
- Manifesting- Energy and vitality. To get some money, first you need to give some!. i.e. Time, study, investing $$. This is no different to energy. We create energy by firstly giving some!
These points are clear and for some of us rather deep. I urge you to take action today to firstly rate yourself out of 10 against these 5 points. Then pick the one that you could better and put some action forward immediately. Before reading part 2 in three days time your goal is to have begun a habit to improve one of these 5 ‘Extra- Ordinary’ ways to express yourself and live a more fulfilling and content life!
Give it a go…Make It Happen!
I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge, and sometimes I
don’t use a whole one at one time, so save the other half for later.
Now with this info, I have changed my mind….
will buy smaller onions in the future!
I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of
mayonnaise. Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in
the Mullins family. My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO.
Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I
learned from a chemist.
The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He’s one of the brothers Ed is
a chemistry expert and is involved in developing most of the sauce formula.
He’s even developed sauce formula for McDonald’s.
Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistry whiz. During the tour, someone
asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always
worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed’s answer will surprise you. Ed
said that all commercially made Mayo is completely safe.
“It doesn’t even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it,
but it’s not really necessary.” He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set
at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment.
He then talked about the quaint essential picnic, with the bowl of potato salad
sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone
gets sick.
Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the
officials look for is when the ‘victim’ last ate ONIONS and where those onions
came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it’s not the mayonnaise (as
long as it’s not homemade Mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It’s
probably the onions, and if not the onions, it’s the POTATOES.
He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked
onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion. He
says it’s not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in
your refrigerator.
It’s already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a
bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you
put on your hamburgers at the BBQ!)
Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy you’ll
probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your
sandwich, you’re asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato
in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any
commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.
So, how’s that for news?
Take it for what you will.
I am going to be very careful about my onions from now on.
For some reason, I see a lot of credibility coming from a chemist
and a company that produces millions of pounds of mayonnaise every year.
Also, dogs should never eat onions.
Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions .
Please remember it is dangerous to cut onions and try to use it to cook
the next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates toxic bacteria which may cause adverse stomach infections
because of excess bile secretions and even food poisoning!
Please pass it on to all you love and care.
Make it happen.
This week I want to share with you my opinion about success.
Success is a journey, it is a culmination of our fears and our failures and how we can overcome them. In success we learn more about failing than anything else, as each failure is a step closer to succeeding. There are studies going on at the moment that test the physiological hormonal response when we fail, in comparison to success, and results would appear that there is a stronger hormonal response from failing than succeeding.
Whatever the reason we can learn from our failures and grow resilience in doing so…. But we have to choose this open and positive attitude. To put in perspective, if you have a bad day in the gym, it is not the end of the world, nor is it a measure of you as a person…It is just a session that did not go so well, it is certainly not a failure. To dwell on one action over and over again will only bring pain as we can not be so absolute about everything and need to be flexible at times. You can always make up make today’s failures tomorrow. Here is a great summary I read earlier today about what we can learn from the ‘gift’ of failure’;
One of the greatest gifts of failure is the knowledge that failure is never final, unless we choose to give up. Discovering that we can turn our lives around, choose a different path, or embrace a new idea at any age or in any set of circumstances is liberating for the soul, can motivate us to seek the wisdom and experience of others who have had different experiences, and can provide the momentum we need to propel us to successes beyond our imaginings.
So right now guys the program is asking you to use what you have learned to grow and develop in not only training but in life, as you have all succeeded so much to come this far.
Try and fail and keep trying until you can happily say…This is it, I have achieved my goal and then…. SET ANOTHER ONE! Never-stop trying and never back down, otherwise you are settling for a lesser version of yourself and you have so much more you can be (for that matter so can I and everyone you know).
What is your life’s purpose? Keep tracking towards the ultimate you and remember this process never stops, as there is always another success you can aspire to and this attitude keeps us motivated, optimistic and healthy!
I look forward to meeting many of you and celebrating with you December 8 with the PUSH_ Party of the YEAR where we present winners and recognition awards!
Success is a journey!
Make it happen…
I want to bring something to your attention today and that is…. In just a few short minutes I would like to coach you to see where you are at in 2013 and then I will share with you some interesting topics on health, lifestyle, fat loss and building lean muscle.
Firstly what is you aim in health and fitness? Heard this before? Well I continually ask this question as in my opinion and after helping thousands of people over the past 14 years, I believe that this will make and break you in achieving what you want. An aim is a philosophy, a vision statement and something you live by. It is not a goal nor does it have a deadline. My personal aim in the health and fitness part of my life is “I can”! This means if you ask me to play tennis, I say yes, if you ask to go for a run, I say sure and if you say lets squat the house down, I am in! You see directions like this drives your goals and if you only plan to achieve your goals then what happens to the health and fitness part of your life, once you do? Ask yourself why you train? If that doesn’t work ask yourself, ‘what don’t you want in your fitness and for your body’? This way you will get a pretty clear picture of the reasons why you exercise. Often they are:
- look good
- feel good
- have energy through the day and feel outgoing
- release stress and tension
- feel strong and confident
From this, you can derive your aim. Your aim should be catchy and short. I.e. ‘To be sexy’ or ‘To be a better version of me’. These are great aims and from this you can then work out what is holding you back from achieving this 100% and then set yourself some goals for the year ahead. PUSH_ Trainers ask this to clients weekly as it works and weekly so should you. Ask yourself on a scale between 1-10 where you rate your efforts towards your aim and then set a goal to grow that number or at least maintain it, in trying times.
Now its 1 months into 2013, so how is your new years resolutions going? By now you should be well on your way and if you are not and don’t make some changes today, the likelihood of you succeeding is very small. Like less than a 7% chance! Now take this on board and do SOMETHING with it and you could turn this around. So what will you start doing today to make this week better than last? (Seriously ask yourself this question and then put a note in your Email calendar to ask yourself that every week- set a recurrence- and be amazed by what this kind of focus can have on your goals)
Things don’t just happen. You need to make it happen and if ‘Nothing changes- Nothing Changes”!
Seriously being fit and healthy simply means you have more fun, check out the Viva team put a funny little skit together for you to see who they would love to be if they were a superhero! …Then there is just dion..What the?
Great work guys, again yo go above and beyond for your clienst and help them laugh as well!
